Gallery Walls

Visualize Your Sapce

It’s easy to get lost in the weeds when designing your gallery wall, but the first step should be choosing the overall look and shape you are hoping to achieve. If you want to line a hallway or staircase with frames, working with long, parallel lines may help direct your pieces. If you’re imagining a full wall as a focal point in a living room, filling the space in from the center out will create a curated look. Play with frame sizes and orientations to get a sense of movement and tell the story you see in your collection.

Know Your Style

Because there are so many possibilities when designing a gallery wall it is important to know what aesthetic you’re going for so you can be intentional about what details to enhance. The decision to mix or match frames is totally up to you! If you’re more eclectic, choosing a few different frames in a couple materials can add an organically collected look. If you like a more classic or traditional style, sticking with a uniform layout is the way to go!

Family Photos vs. Art Prints

Again, it all depends on what vibe you’re aiming to achieve. You can have a wall of family photos, or a collection of your favorite art prints and framed objects, or you can mix the two! Think about the space you are working with and what brings you joy—whether that’s pictures of your kids, photographs of beautiful places and things, art that inspires you, or mementos from travels or loved ones, whatever you chose to showcase should reflect you and your home.

Choose a Color Palette

When choosing which pieces you want to include in your gallery wall, it is important to keep in mind your overall color palette. If you are featuring art, consider tones within the same color family. And if you wish to showcase family photos that have totally varied color schemes, we love turning to black and white prints—it’s such a simple way to display memories from across a lifetime while still having your collection feel intentional and well-designed.

Have Fun!

The biggest tip we can give is to remember there is no one way to create a gallery wall. The beautiful point of these in-home visual installations is that they are unique and completely personal to you and your family. Don’t be afraid to make it your own!
